OHM Healthcare is now the exclusive Australia and New Zealand partner for the Lifemotion ECMO platform.
That announcement carries more weight than a distribution agreement. For a team founded and operated by clinical engineers, taking on an ECMO platform is not a commercial decision — it is a commitment to stand behind technology that people depend on when nothing else has worked.
How we evaluate ECMO equipment
Our team has spent years inside Australian hospitals servicing critical care equipment. Ventilators. ICU devices. The machines that cannot be allowed to fail. When we decided to bring an ECMO platform to ANZ, we evaluated it the way a clinical engineering team would: not as a product to sell, but as a system we would have to support at 2am when a retrieval team calls.
Lifemotion earned that confidence. Here is what convinced us.
Engineering attributes that matter for ANZ
One continuous circuit from retrieval to ICU. The same circuit reconfigures with the patient without breakdown or re-priming at handover — a practical advantage for Australia and New Zealand's retrieval distances and the multi-team handovers that go with them.
Three layers of pump redundancy. Main electric drive, an independently powered backup motor, and a fully mechanical hand crank as the last line. Each is independent of the others.
Integrated monitoring without additional lines. Circuit pressures, differential pressure across the oxygenator, flow, bubble detection, two temperature channels, venous SpO2, haematocrit and haemoglobin on one console display.
A blood path built for long runs. Phosphorylcholine-coated, heparin-free surfaces across the oxygenator, pump head and circuit sets. DEHP-free tubing throughout.
Transport-ready by design. Dual batteries with up to 240 minutes published endurance, a carbon-fibre transport core, and a dedicated carrier system built for road and air environments.
Regulatory status
The Lifemotion ECMO system holds four current ARTG entries in Australia:
Console — ARTG 528964
Membrane oxygenator — ARTG 528771
Centrifugal pump head — ARTG 528772
ECMO circuit sets — ARTG 528773
The platform also holds CE Mark under the EU Medical Device Regulation. Supply in New Zealand is subject to NZ regulatory requirements.
The other half: local support
Technology is only half of an ECMO partnership. The other half is the promise that sits behind it.
For ANZ ECMO centres, that promise is local clinical engineering support, delivered by an ISO 9001:2015-certified team operating to AS/NZS 3551. Installation, commissioning, in-service training, preventive maintenance, and first-line technical support — handled in Australia by engineers who know the device.
Not a call centre. Not a third-party service desk. A team with direct experience on the platform, available for the conversations that happen outside business hours.
Demonstrations and wet-lab sessions
OHM Healthcare is now scheduling demonstrations and wet-lab sessions with ECMO centres across Australia and New Zealand. If you lead a perfusion, ICU or retrieval service and want to put the Lifemotion platform through its paces, we would welcome the conversation.
Contact OHM Healthcare to arrange a demonstration or wet-lab session for your team.
For healthcare professionals and healthcare organisations. Product availability and specifications subject to the locally approved Instructions for Use.
