The Lifemotion ECMO platform centres on an integrated console and circuit architecture designed to consolidate monitoring, pump control, and transport function into a single system. For teams evaluating the platform or preparing for a demonstration, here is what you are working with.
Console and integrated monitoring
The console displays circuit pressures, differential pressure across the oxygenator, flow, bubble detection, two circuit temperatures, venous SpO2, haematocrit and haemoglobin on a single screen — without additional monitoring lines. All circuit parameters are presented on one display, eliminating the need for supplementary monitoring equipment alongside the ECMO console.
Pump redundancy architecture
The centrifugal pump system provides three layers of redundancy, each demonstrable on the system:
The main drive controls normal circuit operation. An independently battery-powered backup motor operates on a separate power supply — if the primary drive requires changeout or loses power, the backup motor maintains circuit flow. A fully mechanical hand crank provides a third layer: no electronics, no battery, just the ability to maintain pump rotation in the most extreme scenario.
Circuit design
One continuous circuit reconfigures from retrieval configuration to ICU setup without breakdown or re-priming at handover. The blood path is phosphorylcholine-coated and heparin-free across the oxygenator, pump head and circuit sets. The tubing is DEHP-free.
Transport system
The transport architecture includes dual batteries with up to 240 minutes published endurance (manufacturer figure), a carbon-fibre transport core, and a dedicated carrier system designed for both road ambulance and aircraft use, developed with Starmed GmbH.
ARTG registration
The Lifemotion ECMO system holds four current ARTG entries in Australia: console (ARTG 528964), oxygenator (ARTG 528771), pump head (ARTG 528772), circuit sets (ARTG 528773). CE Mark under EU MDR. Supply in New Zealand is subject to NZ regulatory requirements.
Demonstrations and wet-lab sessions
OHM Healthcare is scheduling hands-on demonstrations and wet-lab sessions with ECMO centres across Australia and New Zealand. These sessions allow ECMO teams to work directly with the platform — pump redundancy demonstration, circuit handling, transport configuration, console operation — before a procurement or trial decision.
